A few years ago, I took part in the Look Good Feel Better program at RHV Hospital in Barrie. Having grown up in a Mary Kay household, I had heard of it, but never in a million years would have thought that at 41 years young I would be in cancer treatment and taking part in such a program. 

Christine Ransom and the amazing group of volunteers who run this program make you feel so welcomed. I have known Christine for most of my life so when she asked me to volunteer as the class model I naturally said yes. I was a little nervous at first but the wonderful ladies who were helping that day, and the other attendees, put me at ease. It ended up being so much fun trying a new makeup look and modeling the wigs, head scarves, and hats. We had a lot of laughs!! For two hours I was not thinking about cancer but just living in the moment. The great part about the program is that even if you don’t wear makeup, the knowledgeable Mary Kay ladies teach you about skincare and the importance of sun protection. 

The Look Good Feel Better program gives women confidence. You feel empowered by seeing that you still have control over your appearance during treatment and that you can still look and feel good about yourself, with or without hair.   

I was also very impressed with the generous bag of free products that were given to every lady who attended. Some essentials like hand cream really came in handy while going through treatment. 

The Look Good Feel Better program was an excellent experience. 

I am grateful there are programs like this to support women and give them the opportunity to connect with other women who understand how they feel. It’s so much more than just makeup. I encourage every woman going through their own cancer journey to take part.
